Around mid-October of 2004, many of my online friends began talking about NaNoWriMo. Curious, I checked out their website. The goal of NaNoWriMo is to write a 50,000 word novel in the space of one month. It can be fanfiction or original fiction or anything in between. I decided to try it, despite the fact that I had finished a grand total of three pieces of fanfic that year, and despite the fact that the longest piece of original fiction I'd ever written was a little over ten pages. As soon as I resolved to participate, an idea presented itself. To my utter astonishment, I reached the goal – and I did it with several days to spare! During the process, I began to remember what I loved about writing – fanfic had become less of a hobby and more of a chore – and I hope that NaNoWriMo will help me to begin finding the joy in my fic writing once more. When the Magic Comes Back was written in a month and edited in two, solely by me. I hope that you enjoy reading it as much as I enjoyed writing it – and, I hope you'll drop me a note and let me know what you thought – or, just let me know if you spot a typo! |
